The Golden-Oldies Charity (Goldies Cymru) reaches out to young and old through its daytime SING & SMILE fun sessions across Wales and its' Primary Schools inter-generational projects. In 2018 the "Goldies" project based on the commemoration of WW1 won the prestigious NATIONAL LOTTERY AWARDS - EDUCATION CATEGORY. The picture above was taken at Thornhill Primary School, Cardiff when the announcement was made in October 2018.

We would like to tell you about our NEW HERITAGE Primary Schools Programme which has launched and on this website you will find all you need to know to help you to plan special events at your school engaging with older people in your local community and the families of your pupils, including grandparents of course!

Download our press release announcing the new programme

'Goldies' is the SING & SMILE charity and offering primary schools who take part in our inter-generational projects has always included newly commissioned song medleys. This new project is based on Nursery Rhymes and there are Two New Medleys for schools to easily access on this website. The first is a medley of popular English Nursery Rhymes - Twinkle Twinkle / Grand Old Duke of York / Three Blind of Mice / Old Macdonald and others... There is also the medley of Welsh folk songs, see below.

Pictured are the children from Llanedeyrn Primary School, Cardiff who recorded the Welsh folk song Medley which is one of the Medleys for schools to learn and perform as part of this project. A big thanks to the school and particularly to Deputy Head Mrs Beverley Knuckey and you can click here to find out how you can download this Medley to sing at your school.

This Medley was specially written for Goldies Cymru by Dr. Alwyn Humphrey's MBE. Alwyn is a Trustee of the Goldies Charity and a great supporter of all we do across South Wales.

JANUARY -  letters have been sent to over 600 primary schools across Wales, telling them about the new project. Should you be reading this, and have not received the letter, please contact us and we will put one in the post to you - email info@back2school.org.uk

Sharing memories - present and past

Every school will have older people living nearby, all of whom will have memories of their school days, maybe even in that same school, or maybe in very different cultures. There will also be links with grandparents and with over 60 "Goldies Cymru" daytime, fun Sing&Smile sessions there may be one that takes place in your local community. Older people have a treasure of valuable memories, covering so many different areas. Yet many will have few who they can share their memories with. This, of course, can lead to isolation and is at the heart of the Golden-Oldies inter-generational programme.

Please contact us by email - info@back2school.org.uk to discuss how we can work together with your Primary School.
